DAVID BIRKIN is an artist, writer, and Senior Lecturer in Photography at LCC, University of the Arts London. He holds a BA from Oxford University, an MA from the Slade School of Fine Art, and was a fellow of the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program in New York. David is a doctoral researcher in Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and a Visiting Fellow in Art History at the University of Cambridge.
Combining archival film practices with conceptual photography and public performance, much of Birkin's work centres on state violence and the ideological apparatus of imperial power. His current research traces histories of resistance and disarmament.
